About Uprise & Unchain Employment Law
Trial-Tested Representation
for California Workers
Uprise & Unchain Employment Law exists for one reason: to stand beside workers when their rights, dignity, and livelihood are threatened.
Eric McBurney
Trial Attorney
Eric McBurney is a seasoned trial attorney who has taken more than 100 cases to jury verdict. His career has been built inside courtrooms, representing individuals in high-stakes situations where the outcome matters deeply.
Before entering civil practice, Eric served for over a decade as a public defender across multiple California counties, including Contra Costa, San Bernardino, San Francisco, San Diego, and Sacramento. He later worked on capital defense cases with the ACLU, representing individuals facing the most serious consequences under the law.
This level of courtroom experience is rare — and it defines his approach today.
A Perspective Shaped by Experience
Eric’s path to becoming an attorney was not conventional.
At ten years old, he was brought to the United States and left behind, growing up in foster care while navigating an uncertain immigration status. Despite earning an education, his early employment options were limited to physically demanding labor, including restaurant work and landscaping.
He experienced firsthand what it means to have limited power in the workplace.
That experience continues to shape his commitment to representing workers today.
Trial Experience That Creates Leverage
Eric spent twelve years as a public defender, standing across from government prosecutors and advocating for individuals with limited resources.
He did not build his career negotiating from fear. He built it trying cases.
Today, he brings that same courtroom strength to representing workers facing employers, corporations, and institutions.
Every case is prepared as if it will go to trial.
Insurance companies and defense attorneys recognize that level of preparation — and that recognition creates leverage that benefits his clients.
